The interesting and diverse surroundings of Malinska reveal many interesting natural attractions and historical localities that date back to Antiquity. The island of Krk has a mysterious connection with the number seven: Croats first settled the island in the seventh century, it was successfully defended from pirate attacks seven times, the seventh Frankopan was the last duke of Krk , and Krk today consists of seven administrative units: the town of Krk and the municipalities of Omišalj, Malinska, Punat, Baška, Vrbnik and Dobrinj.
Within these seven centres, seven variants of the Chakavian dialect of the Croatian language are spoken, and every centre on the island has its own natural, historical and cultural attractions, together forming this magnificent golden island – a name that was bestowed upon Krk in honour of its many unique features.
